Some of us spend our whole lives trying to figure ourselves out

and the rest of us spend our whole lives trying to figure everyone else out.

Everyone is determined to find our secret,

And yet, after centuries of war and discord,

We still cannot seem to be at peace.

And yesterday, I realized.

We can never not be at war because we are people.

We can never live in peace with ourselves,

Because there is always something wrong,

Because we are people.

Gratefulness is a blessing, one that rips your eyes open to the world.

Everyone lives in a tainted universe that only they live in,

And because we are people,

There is no way we will ever be able to lift up the veil

And finally see that the world is here for us, not against us.

But of course, we will never see that.

And that is because

We are people.
