I'm tired

I wonder 

Do polar bears ever get tired

of being alone

on the cold, wide expanse of the ice?

They are the only living thing in sight for miles

Fish and seals and all kinds of creatures

Live beneath the surface

They live together

Away from the polar bear

I wonder

Do polar bears know that the ice is melting

Soon they will run out of tundra to walk

And they will have to swim

Swim until they are tired

Swim until the frigid waters pull them under

I am a polar bear

Below me is the fish and the seals and all kinds of creatures

Living beneath the surface

Together

Away from me

I wonder

Will I ever get tired

of being alone?
